Greetings and welcome to day 3 of the AtoZChallenge. Today we have two very interesting ladies for our Coolest Classical Author, one wrote great romance with gritty, determined female characters, the other science fiction with a side of Gothic horror.
- Katniss Everdeen
Katniss volunteered to take her sister’s place in the Hunger Games, a virtuous thing to do, but she is much more than just the protector of her sister, she is strong-willed, clever, determined, and is the turning point for her oppressed contempories. Forced in her role, into courageous fight, into leadership, she proves herself time and again!

- Coraline
Coraline is a sassy kid in a new place. Left to her own devices by her constantly busy parents, she makes her own adventures and soon ends up having to fight not only for her life, but her soul and that of her parents and friends too. Drawn into a dangerous parallel world, Coraline must fight, but she must also decide what she thinks in right.

What is the AtoZChallenge?
For those who don’t know, the AtoZChallenge is a giant blog hop with thousands of blogs taking part. Every day in April, apart from Sundays, these blogs will post using a letter of the alphabet at a prompt, e.g. A on 1st, B on 2nd etc.It has been running since 2010 and was thought up by the lovely Arlee Bird who put out a challenge and it has grown and grown since. It is a superb way to meet other bloggers and to have a huge amount of fun.
I haven’t read either book, but Coraline is on my to-be-read. So I’ll have to go with Coraline.
Plus if it’s as entertaining as Neverwhere (my very first encounter with Neil Gaiman…OMG unbelievably amazing!) then that’s a win-win!
Writer In Transit
I’ll go with Katniss because I haven’t read Coraline.
I have to go with Katniss. Even though I never read the book, I’ve seen most of the films. I may have missed the last one. I should probably go and watch that.
