So J is always an interesting letter in the AtoZChallenge and we hope we have found a fun category for today’s Literary Smackdown. We would like you to tell us which of our shortlist is the Most Jovial Joker.
- Willy Wonka
The iconic creation of Roald Dahl, Willy Wonka is a joker who loves to spread around the joy. Even though he had to close his factory because of industrial espionage he continued to share his delight in candy with the world. When he opens his doors again to the five golden ticket holders, we get the feeling he is having something of a laugh at their expense. This is the man who makes chocolate by waterfall and thinks nothing of a vehicle that coveres everyone in foam. He has to be worth a vote.
or
- Puck
From the head of Shakespeare, the master of the fool, comes Puck, the ultimate jovial joker. Also known as Robin Goodfellow he is the jester to Oberon. However, he is not simply a clown. He is the one charged to retrieve Love-in-Idleness, the flower that will make any person fall in love with the first other person they see if it’s juice is applied to their eyes. He is then instructed to use it on Titania, Queen of the Fairies and Lysander, one of four lovers in the wood. At the end of the play Puck has a beautiful speech, suggesting to the audience, if they didn’t like the play to pretend it was a dream. That must make some of us want to vote for him.

What is the AtoZChallenge?
For those who don’t know, the AtoZChallenge is a giant blog hop with thousands of blogs taking part. Every day in April, apart from Sundays, these blogs will post using a letter of the alphabet at a prompt, e.g. A on 1st, B on 2nd etc.It has been running since 2010 and was thought up by the lovely Arlee Bird who put out a challenge and it has grown and grown since. It is a superb way to meet other bloggers and to have a huge amount of fun.
Another hard choice. Maybe Puck since he’s been around longer.

Mr. Wonka got my vote today, but I’m not sure it’s the character as much as the actor that captured that vote!
My vote has to go to Willy Wonka. Enjoyed the book, the movies and the chocolate. How can I vote against that?
I prefer Puck, since he’s so fun and impish.
Well, considering we are having “Willy Wonka” trivia at work tomorrow…i think I know where my vote needs to go!
