Greetings and welcome to day 6 of the AtoZChallenge. We have a showdown of true greats today for the battle to be Most Fantastic Fantasy Author. One is the usurper of the throne, the other one of the original greats.
- J.K. Rowling
Arguable the most famous living fantasy author today and the richest. Also a great giver to charity and someone who has not forgotten her origins even as her fame takes her all over the world. Joanne Rowling, the woman who gave us the amazing world of Harry Potter, is an amazing writer and accomplished business woman. The wizarding world made reading cool again, surely this is worth your vote?
or
- J.R.R. Tolkien
There is a reason elves are seen as tall willowy, beautiful people and it’s because of Tolkien. Also a poet and philosopher he is best know for his high-fantasy in The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings and The Silmarillion. Some view him as the father of modern fantasy. He took part in the First World War and it clearly affected his outlook on live and can be seen in his writing. Some love Tolkien, some find him too wordy, but his works are still selling in hoards so that must be worthy of a vote, yes?

What is the AtoZChallenge?
For those who don’t know, the AtoZChallenge is a giant blog hop with thousands of blogs taking part. Every day in April, apart from Sundays, these blogs will post using a letter of the alphabet at a prompt, e.g. A on 1st, B on 2nd etc.It has been running since 2010 and was thought up by the lovely Arlee Bird who put out a challenge and it has grown and grown since. It is a superb way to meet other bloggers and to have a huge amount of fun.
J.K. Rowling, hands down. Not only is she an amazing storyteller, but she has a solid social conscious for worthy causes! Plus, she makes my little girls deliriously happy:)

JK Rowling wins easily. I could never get into Tolkien. I tried, I really tried, but his books never did it for me.

I adore Tolkien. Like him, I’ve been criticised as being too wordy 🙂
Have to give my vote to Tolkein. I’ve read all his LOTR books and I have yet to read one Harry Potter book.
Voted for Tolkien since Terry Brooks wasn’t an option…
I haven’t read either of their work (I know isn’t that terrible), but I have seen movies by both of them. I’d have to say its a draw for me; can’t vote either way 🙂

I had to vote for Tolkein. His prose far surpasses Rowling’s, and even though her stories are super fun to read, Tolkein’s are the finest of quests.
Flip a coin on this one. Now I want to read both of their series again.
I haven’t read either of these authors.
I’ll go with J.K Rowling. Women power wins for this one.
